This season, one of the hottest items of footwear is the combat boot. Every modern girl must have them in her closet and perhaps in multiple styles! The charm of combat boots have superseded the appeal of cowboy boots and riding boots. As the name may imply, combat boots have their origins in the military. First named the "hobnail combat boot" for the type of nails used to construct the shoe, these boots were used even way back in the Roman Empire. The nails would help give traction for soldiers on tricky terrain and have been used as recently as the Second World War. Today, modern soldiers use boots with a gripping rubber sole to aid with durability and stability.

Combat boots became popular in the counter-culture of the 1980s and 1990s (think Madonna at her prime!) and are now back in favor within the fashion community! I love these boots as they are incredibly versatile and work great with any outfit! Also, they are incredibly comfortable and can be worn any time, day or night! I particularly love wearing them with rolled up jeans or cords and a button down shirt to work. But on the weekends I pair them with my fleece-lined leggings and chambray shirt to make a super comfy outfit!
