Dress Yourself Thin: 3 Skinny Style Secrets

Beginning the new year means beginning new resolutions and usually those said resolutions include something about getting in shape, losing weight, or becoming physically strong. It's totally normal to want to lose those few pounds you gained from indulging during the holidays and look your best. Workout resolutions are long term commitments so you can be beach ready for spring break. To me, it's making small, reasonable changes to your daily routine that can help jumpstart healthy living. I've committed to eating healthier by reducing my intake of wheat, dairy, and sugary products. Also, my roommate got a treadmill for Christmas that is now in our basement, so there isn't a feasible excuse not to work out. I'm hoping with these small changes, I can be photo-ready for my engagement photo shoot later this year!

In the meantime as we work towards shedding a few pounds, here are 3 style secrets to help you look 10 pounds skinnier! What you've got to do is belt it, go bold, and bring balance.

1. In the below picture, the woman is wearing a belt over her shirt and cardigan. By wearing a dark brown belt at her waist it is emphasizing the smallest part of her torso, drawing the eye to that all-around flattering area. Make sure the belt hits at your natural waist and if you pair it with jeans, make sure your top is long enough to create a balance between the top and bottom. If it's too short, your torso will look stunted.

2. Fashion this year is all about going bold. Try wearing a fashion-forward outfit that has playful hues or textural interest and most of all display your confidence. When you exude confidence and appear comfortable in your own skin, positive changes occur. You'll walk taller and hold your head higher, naturally breaking free from that slouch and thus creating a lean figure!

3. Balance is the third secret to styling yourself skinny. If you are bottom heavy, wear darker pants and a lighter top. Adding a blazer or motorcycle jacket not only screams confidence, but also balances out wider hips by creating more visual interest in your torso. If you are broad shouldered, try a peplum top or dress that will create a lineal balance between your hips and shouldered. Petites need to make sure their jeans/pants are not too long and cut off at the ankle. Pants should also be one solid color to create a solid visual line and making your legs appear longer. Once this balance is achieved your body will look proportional and the effect will be that of dropping those few pounds you're wanting to lose!
