A Lazy Fall Sunday

Pumpkins, crunching yellow leaves, warm soups, comfy sweaters, apple cider, Chiefs games... all of my favorite things about fall! I already have so many plans for the fall season and yet somehow I know it will go by quick! The Louisburg Cider Mill south of Kansas City is a great place to for a fun fall date. Carving and painting pumpkins in the backyard is sure to get you in the autumnal mood! Yet despite these fun activities, sometimes it is just nice to take a lazy day for yourself! That's what is happening today after a busy Friday night celebration of Mikael's birthday and Saturday afternoon out and about. So what exactly does my lazy day entail? Sleeping in, a cup of warm cider,  a run to Trader Joe's, distracted watching of the Chiefs game, and cooking some of my favorite sweet potato chili!

As I was getting dressed this morning, I realized it was high time to get out my sweaters and other cold weather gear! Honestly, nothing beats the feeling of reuniting with your favorite fall/winter pieces! One of my most loved pieces is this super comfy oversized knit sweater that I picked up a couple years ago. It's well loved and is perfect for a fall day like today!

Tomorrow is Columbus Day, which is a questionable celebration in my mind. That's because 1) Columbus didn't really discover the new world (hello, there were people already living here) and 2) his arrival lead to millions of deaths due to the spread of disease. Interestingly, the holiday wasn't made a federal holiday until 1937, but it has been celebrated in the Americas since the colonial times. There are only three states that don't officially recognize the holiday: Hawaii, Alaska, and South Dakota. Rather, South Dakota celebrates "Native American Day" on the same date to honor the state culture and large Native American reservations. I think that's pretty awesome!

Have a great rest of your Sunday and I'll see you next week!
