Double-Dog Dare You

This day in history, fifty-eight years ago, two explorers named Edmund Hillary and Tanzing Norgay became the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest. These men were from New Zealand and Nepal (respectively) and were part of a British expedition to climb the highest point on Earth, some 29,035 above sea level. The news of their success came the eve of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation and made the event even more special to the English people. They proclaimed that it was a good omen for the nation's future.

So, in commemoration of the anniversary of the first explorers climb to the summit of Mount Everest, I challenge you to be more daring as well. This particularly applies to fashion. I have heard from many of my readers that they wish that they could try a certain style but "just don't think they can pull it off." To this, I say bullshit! Nearly anyone can pull off a look as long as they know what is good for their body type and wear the style with confidence. It took me a while to work up to dressing more eclectically, because I thought I would be made fun of. However, I slowly started wearing more fashion-forward stuff and sure, sometimes I did get teased, but generally few people noticed. And if they did notice, usually I was complimented for my daring style.

Today, I double-dog dare you to try out that style that you have been yearning to try, whether it is wearing that leopard print skirt that you have seen hanging in Forever 21, rocking the hippie headband, or even just trying out those bright pair of high heels that are stored on the top shelf of your closet. Go ahead, give yourself permission to have fun with fashion and try something new and exciting. You won't regret it. Just wear it with confidence!
