Working Wardrobe: Tuesday, October 6

Blanket scarves - last years fall/winter trend has come back around this year and I'm finally trying it out! Initially, I was fairly skeptical because 1. I didn't want to look like a crazy person wearing a blanket and 2. I felt like it would be too bulky and difficult to wear. But after running across this gorgeous classic plaid fabric at the craft store I knew I had to give in. There was just no way I was going to spend the fall season without this fabric! So I roughed up the cut edges and gave it a go!

With the few times I've worn a blanket scarf I have picked up a few lessons for styling that I wanted to share with you:

Poncho (AKA draped over your shoulders and front) is easy, but you may feel like an idiot until you get used to it. However, it has most minimal conversion time to actual blanket, which helps in my cold basement classroom.

Belted Poncho feels a little less awkward, but you have to make sure you don't pin down your arms too tight and make it impossible to move. (I don't think the boss would except that as an excuse for not working.) Both versions of Poncho maximize the potential chic-ness.

Bandana (folding it in half into a triangle and tying it front to back) works well and helps reduce some of the bulk of the thick plaid fabric while also feeling less awkward.

Stoll (named after pastors' stolls at church) is simple enough by just wearing it straight down without any fancy tying. It works particularly well with jackets and can even be jazzed up with a cute belt! Easy, but bulky at points.

Verdict: 7/10 - If it wasn't for the cute pattern on the fabric and my perpetually cold legs, I probably would have let go of the blanket scarf trend. But, with the poncho trend topping the charts for the fall season, it's definitely one worth trying! It may take a few clumsy, awkward tries with it, but with a little luck (and the above styling tips!) you'll find your favorite way to wear it. As for me, I'll be rotating through all four of the styles with my scarf!

I hope you have a great rest of your week! I'll catch you this weekend!
