Amelia Earhart, dubbed the "Queen of the Air" by the United Press, most famously was known for her doomed flight around the world, a first for women's history. Earhart was fully aware of the significance of her role and how her image became significant within the fashion industry. Her appearance stood out at the time with her boyishly cropped hair, tailored pants, buttoned up shirt, scarf/neck tie, and leather bomber jacket. As her name became more well-known throughout the United States, she accepted endorsement campaigns for various clothing lines and luggage sold in department stores like Macy's. In 1934, she created a line of clothing called "Amelia Earhart Fashions," which was only sold in Macy's New York store and Marshall Field's Chicago store, that included stylish suits and dresses. She was really at her height of fame within society when she embarked on that fateful flight around the world.

Not only am I inspired by her role within the women's equality movement (my favorite quote of her's is above), I also love her boldness of style that really shaped the generation's fashion trends. The bomber jacket is a staple of every wardrobe, and I especially love wearing ones made of leather during the spring and fall. However, even in the summer if you find a lightweight cotton bomber jacket in a bright color or fun print that makes the perfect outfit accessory as it adds a bit of polish and gives you a unique look! I particularly like the pairing of it with bright shorts or even a flowy skirt for a bit of balance.
Try some of the below or keep an eye out at your favorite stores because you are bound to find one that will be perfect for this summer!
Oasis flight jacket, $93 / Mango leather bomber jacket, $185 / Forever 21 faux leather bomber jacket
