Working Wardrobe: September 10

Thursday - so close to Friday and the weekend, I can almost touch it. I'm not sure what it is about Labor Day weekend, but the extra time just made me feel like I needed more weekend! The weekend was a perfect bundle of fun events - First Fridays, Irish Festival, a friend's birthday, and a Royals game. I definitely was not ready to return to school on Tuesday!

This week, I wanted to show you my project from the summer that makes a perfect transitional piece for summer into fall. I don't know about you, but I love shift t-shirt dresses. They are my absolute favorite. They're great for any occasion, always comfortable, and so easy to style. This summer my mom and I worked on DIY'ing our own t-shirt dress using a pattern from JoAnn's. While it took nearly an entire Saturday, I love the result. The cotton material is a lovely shade of emerald - just in time for autumn. Today for work, I paired my handmade dress with a light H&M animal print scarf. I wasn't really wearing much jewelry due to the scarf, so I added a pair of bright fringe earrings to add some additional visual interest. The studded belt helped nip in the waist (usually necessary for shift dresses) and fun ankle boots helped give the look a definitive fall feel. It was the ideal amount of coverage for this warm, muggy day here in Kansas City!

I hope you have a great upcoming weekend! For me, I'll be headed out to Chick Events at Park Place - a handmade and vintage festival in Leawood. I hope you'll be able to join! Tickets and information can be found here.

Catch you on Sunday!
