Double Trouble

On November 3, 1948 the presidential race between New York Governor Thomas Dewey and Harry Truman was tight and finally coming to a close. Similar to today, the contenders were neck-and-neck and it would be a photo finish. Harry Truman was the incumbent, yet had not actually ran for president before. That was because he had became the President of the United States after Franklin D. Roosevelt died in April 1945. Newspapers throughout the nation were highly favoring Dewey and the Chicago Tribune mistakenly published on the front page of their November 3rd paper "Dewey Defeats Truman."

However, this was not so as you can see from the incumbent's beaming face holding up the erroneous paper above. In a monumental upset, Truman was elected president again with a margin of 114 electoral votes. Similarly on October 19th of this year, a Phoenix news outlet showed a graphic on their TV ticker that showed President Barack Obama had won the election with 99% of the precincts reporting. The station quickly realized their error and it was taken down.

This week I just wanted to show you an outfit I wore to work. I'm wearing a J.Crew pencil skirt, J.Crew plaid shirt, Steve Madden leopard print heels, Coach hoop earrings, and a gifted statement necklace. I love the mixture of patterns in this, especially with my little graphic bowtie made out of a gingham fabric scrap. It's quirky, fun, and fits in well with fall season!
