In honor of the beginning of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, this post is dedicated to their history and bringing their mixed metals into your every day outfits! The Olympic Games originated in Ancient Greece starting in 776 BCE and continued until 393 AD. Many myths surround the forming of the competitions that largely include the participation of gods. Their importance was profoundly felt throughout the kingdoms and city-states especially in the political and religious realms of life. After a renewal of interest into the ancient world during the 18th century, the games were brought back to life in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin with the founding of the International Olympic Committee. Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, changes have been made to Olympic Games, including the addition of the Winter Games, Special Olympics, and Junior Olympics. Today, over 200 countries and 13,000 individuals participate in the worldwide competition that dominates our television channels every two years. The Olympic athletes are inspirational and especially love hearing their stories of rising to such a level of greatness in their specific sport. These individuals' dedication to training their bodies to become the best in the world is simply awe-invoking, especially when most who participate are my age or younger. It simply is incredible to watch these Olympic Games and I am loving every minute of it!
In true Olympic fashion, don't fear the mixture of metal types in your outfits. The more you add, the more bohemian you'll end up looking, but if you only mix two (such as silver and gold) the look will become more sophisticated. I love mixing my bracelets and never worry about matching my hardware with my purses, belts, and shoes. Not only does this require too much thought and effort, it really is just unnecessary. It's not your grandma's fashion rules any more - mix it up!
