Working Wardrobe: February 19

Happy Friday! This week has been a long and busy one. It's been filled with fun events and wonderful opportunities, but goodness, I'm ready for the weekend. Tuesday I attended a screening of Selma with some students and Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver. (By the way, this is a fantastic movie and if you haven't seen it yet, you should! It's hard to believe that it didn't receive any Oscar nominations.)

Also this week, I received the exciting news that I will be part of the media bloggers for Kansas City Fashion Week! I'm unbelievably happy about this opportunity and cannot wait to share with you all of the beautiful work from local designers here in Kansas City!

Thursday I felt the desire to dress up with a more professional outfit. I'm not sure what came over me. (It might have been the fact that I'm fairly certain that one of Congressman Cleaver's aides confused me with a student...) So I picked out my clean black pants and black jacket (Talbots) to pull the look together. My jacket isn't one I wear often, but every time I do I always admire how feminine its structure is. To help balance out the femininity of the jacket, I added a plaid shirt (J.Crew) and gingham bow tie. My leopard print flats (Lands End) brought the last touch of pattern to the outfit and really helped make it fun!
