This week Matt Baldwin opened his first store on the Plaza in Kansas City. By many, Baldwin has become something of a local hero with his dedication to well styled clothing made from quality materials. Cited as "the high priest of low-key gear" by GQ, Matt Baldwin was recently named one of the year's four Best New Menswear Designers. Two of his most famous pieces are the KC Baldwin hat and his camo utility trousers, both sported by popular celebrities. It's hard to find photos of Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde when they aren't sporting the Baldwin hat. From his GQ commendation, several select Baldwin's items are now being sold in Gap stores across the nation. However, just be careful though as these are not made of the same high quality material that you will find in regular Baldwin stores.
I recently visited the Baldwin store in Town Center in Leawood to pick up the Baldwin hat as an anniversary present for my boyfriend. As I looked through the pieces, I was incredibly impressed with how the store was organized and the items offered. Not only were there the legendary jeans that many have raved about, but also numerous tailored shirts, denim jackets, and even high-end hair styling products. It was quite an experience going through the store, staffed by many well-groomed, stylish, bearded men. Although expensive, it's a brand that is worth its while due to the quality craftsmanship and lasting style.

Baldwin has some impressive plans for the future as he is planning on partnering with a Japanese textile mill to create his own badass denim. This will be a unique opportunity for the designer as it will create a truly one-of-a-kind jean that is unavailable anywhere else. I am looking forward to seeing that play out!
Check out the new KC Baldwin store on the Plaza. It's definitely worth a stop in!
