This past week was 102nd birthday of Lucille Ball, a favorite American comedian and retro icon for women since the 1950s. A four-time Oscar award winner, Lucille was a fan favorite for years. I remember curling up watching old reruns of I Love Lucy on the family room couch with my brother. The idyllic mid-century comedy with hilarious verbal sparring between Lucy and Des always brought us laughs. Every time I watched each episode I remember secretly wishing to have lived during that tim period with the beautifully curled hair pinned so artfully and fabulous shirt-dresses.
The modern retro look inspires me today. I love to incorporate gently teased and poofed bangs with a fun cat eye. I long to be able to successfully curl my hair in the ways of retro beauties of old. I also love to see men with similar vintage hairstyles, parted on the side. It makes them look incredibly dapper and polished! The mix of modern style with retro beauty is charming and fashion-forward. Below are a few pictures that are inspiring me today.
