Style Icon: Michelle Obama

When looking for a fashion icon and inspiration, I knew there was no one better to write about than Michelle Obama. No matter your political views, one thing is fact: Michelle Obama has style. On Wednesday her new official portrait was revealed showing a smiling, flawless close-up of the gorgeous woman sporting her new bangs she recently called a product of her “mid-life crisis.” Not only is Michelle Obama the first lady, but she is also a mother, wife, lawyer, and advocate.

A true philanthropist, Michelle has worked throughout her life serving communities and recently started the Let’s Move! campaign in 2010 to tackle childhood obesity. Additionally in 2011, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden launched Joining Forces, which supports military families and their search for employment, education, and wellness.

Michelle’s style over the years has definitely improved, however, she has always been a classy dresser. Her outfits are tailored, youthful, and very well thought out. She focuses on a clean silhouette with lots of skirts that fall just below the knee, short sleeves to show off her tones arms, uses fun prints to add a bit of flair, and for formal occasions often wears one shoulder dresses that reflect her know-how for modern styles. You can often find her in J.Crew outfits for less formal occasions (one reason I love her!).

At 49, Mrs. Obama serves as a shining example for middle-aged women (and all of us!) that time should not diminish your sense of style and reduce your playfullness with fashion!
