A Pink October

Since the month of October is upon us, I have found that it is important to talk up the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness. This topic is very near and dear to my heart since my grandmother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (thankfully she beat it) and my sorority's philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness/Research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Every year we create a team to run/walk in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown KC and it truly is a wonderful experience. I participated during my senior year and was incredibly moved by the women (and men) who were running for themselves, a family member, friend, or significant other. It was a powerful and life changing moment. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to participate in a similar philanthropic event.

Helping raise money for Breast Cancer Research is super easy, especially with Yoplait's Save Lids to Save Lives campaign. Additionally, many retailers sell special pink versions of products that give back to the Susan G. Komen foundation. Other options to raise awareness about this disease are wearing pink ribbons, encouraging your girlfriends to get regular mammograms and perform self check-ups, as well as wearing pink throughout the month. These simple and quick choices can really make all the difference.

So I'm encouraging you to take up the challenge and this month wear pink. It's a fun, totally girly, and sexy color that evokes confidence and encourages your femininity. The hottest trend right now is pairing a bright pink with red or orange. It gives an interesting and surprisingly chic contrast. So go for it!
