One of my favorite looks for the fall months is fringe trim on skirts, jackets, and boots, and necklaces. It's becoming very popular as it fits in with many different styles. It incorporates easily with the boho look, the Native American/cowboy chic, the tough motorcycle look and the 1920's flapper. I incorporated it in my costume for this Halloween and found the trim to be a very fun accessory.
The 1920s flapper rose as the public became increasingly more angst-ridden over the government's prohibition laws. The iconic image of the young flat-chested woman with short hair and shorter fringed drop-waist dresses became popularized in the tales of F. Scott Fitzgerald and illustrations of Faith Burrows. The beauty of the fringe trim was that it shimmied and shook when the young women danced in the speakeasies. Extravagant furs, feather boas, sparkly headbands, and dark red lips completed this look and epitomized the look of leisure, wealth, and health.
