Father's Day

Old photo with the parents outside the Biltmore Estate
This weekend I made a quick journey home to spend the few days with my parents and celebrate Father's Day. This holiday that unofficially began its celebrations in 1910 was officially made part of the U.S. calendar in 1972 by decree of President Woodrow Wilson. Altogether it was a lovely weekend. We went for a family run on Saturday morning, I hit some golf balls with my dad, celebrated Blooms Day (the Irish literary holiday to celebrate the day that Ulysses by James Joyce was set) by going to The Anchor, and enjoyed the Fiddler on the Roof by Music Theatre of Wichita. Today, as part of my present to my dad, I cooked a pretty great meal: cheesy quinoa cakes topped with garlic aioli, tilapia tacos with mango salsa, and red velvet cake. They all were delicious and we still felt decently healthy after eating!

I hope you all had a wonderful father's day with your dads and celebrated the wonderful people that dads are in our lives.
